Father Gavin’s Letter dated 14th April 2024
Dear Friends
This last Candlemas I reached my 30th anniversary as parish priest of St Augustine’s. I never imagined when I first arrived all those years ago that I would still be here today, but here I am. And I can honestly say that every moment has been a real honour and privilege.
However, as I get older, I realise that I have reached the time when I need to make changes in my life, and therefore at Candlemas next year, on the 2nd February 2025, I shall be retiring.
It has not been an easy decision to make, but I feel it is the right one for me and Louise. We would like to explore something new and different while we are still young enough, and hopefully healthy enough, to do so. We shall be moving to a small town called Haxby, just a few miles from York. It is on the edge of the North York Moors, Wolds and Dales, on which we hope to be able to indulge more in our passion for walking and bird watching.
I thank you all for the precious years we have shared with you and will work with you in the time we have left to prepare for St Augustine’s next phase.
